Alfred Baur (1865-1951) was a Swiss born businessman, who developed a passion for Japanese and Chinese art during his travels. He built his collection of Japanese and Chinese art over a period of 45 years with a strong focus on ceramics, netsuke and Japanese prints. A very refined collector, he only bought very rare pieces of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Before his death, he established a foundation to house his collection and make it accessible to the public.
