Henri Maik (1922-93, France), son of illustrator Joseph Hecht, only began painting at in 1956 at the age of 34. He was discovered by the art dealer Wally Findlay in 1964, who hosted Maik's first US exhibition in Palm Beach that same year, with numerous shows to follow in New York, Chicago, Bevery Hills and Paris. 
Henri Maiks colourful, harmonious paintings revolve around exotic landscapes, flowers and beasts of the jungle. He has also created tapetries at Aubusson, and has written and illustrated several children's books.
