Margaret Preston scarf, motif based on "Gum Blossoms", 1928
Oak frame: 94,5 x 90,5 cm
20th century, Australia
Margaret Rose Preston (1875-1963) was one of Australia's leading modernist painters and printmakers. Her extensive traveling in Europe in 1904-06 and 1912-19 shaped the direction of her art, notably the influence of Clive Bell and Roger Fry. Her study of Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking is also apparent in her work.
