Just Mikailoff (1936-67) was born Georges Ducurtil in Tunis. From the age of 10, he lived in France. He graduated from the Beaux Arts in Lyon in 1953; during the 1960's his work was collected by patrons such as Marie-Laure de Noailles, and the  famous decorator Henri Samuel commissioned him to decorate an entrance hall in Paris. In 1967, preparing for the Venice biennale, Just Mikailoff was killed in an accident.
