Roger Chapelain-Midy (1904-1992, France) was a French painter and theatre designer. Educated at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he gained international renown with exhibitions including the Venice Biennale in 1937 and Exposition d'Art Francais in London in 1938. Manufacture National des Gobelins commissioned the artist to make drawings for tapestries depicting the four elements. Roger Chapelain-Midy was made both Officier de la Légion d'Honneur and Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres.
