"This photo was taken in 2000. I went to the Villa Medici to do a series of photos for a French magazine. It was spring. I stayed during two or three days in the villa walking around to capture the feeling of the place. I knew the villa before; I stayed one week in a pavillon in the garden of the villa Medici in 1986, at the time I was doing a shooting on Cinecitta. I was fascinated by the simplicity and the elegance of the place. When I came back fourteen years later, I found the place always magical and unchanged. I had the pleasure to walk everywhere in the villa for the shooting."
Roland Beaufre studied art and architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He lives between France and Morocco, photographing people and interiors for international publications such as World of Interiors, Architectural Digest and New York Times Magazine.
